It's often said that if something is out of sight it is out of mind. I've found that, if I want a client to regularly send me work, it's really important that I am not out of sight and that I am always staying in touch with them!
How do I stay in touch effectively?
One thing I like to do is avoid simply asking: "is there anything I can do for you?". I like to try and be proactive with suggestions of what I can do for my clients based on what I've done for them in the past or what I know about their business.
This is a simple example:
- Previous Task: Set up a company Facebook and Twitter page

My follow up message:
- Hi XXXX, hope you are well. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do for you. I recently set up your social media pages. I can also keep them up to date with daily/frequent posts/tweets. Optimise your pages viewership. I can also set up other social media pages for you such as Instagram. If you want further awareness of your company I could set up a blog and write regular articles you would like written. Simply highlight as many as you want and use your Time etc chrome extension and I will get started on working on it for you. Let me know. Kind Regards, XXXX

Setting up and writing regular blog posts.
I find that my staying in touch with clients, even if they are not sending me work, and sending them my ideas I can re-engage them and this, in turns, leads to more work and income. For more information and a real life example click here.
